Here we have a true Red Tea. In China, it is known as Hong Cha (literally, "red tea"), after the reddish colour of its infusions. However, early in the tea trade to the West, very little information was exchanged and the name was dropped in favour of "black tea," which referred to the dark, withered leaves of the tea.

"Dian" (滇) is an aboriginal word for "Yunnan" and "hong (紅)" is "red," so this term applies to any red tea produced in Yunnan, which is the birthplace place of all tea. This stunning tea is from ancient trees, around 800 years old. The local villages collectively own a selection of the forest and pick the tea trees on a rotation of once every five years to ensure they are not over harrested.  The long rolling really and heavily oxidization breaks down the cell walls, which means they can release more of the teas essence. This is why red tea is richer, darker and has a more full-bodied liquor. It is strong and vibrant and best drunk in the morning.

Gentle, smooth and steady, this tea has honey-fragrance and a thick liquor.

Available in 50g and 150g
